TorGuard lite vs Viscosity VPN Client
The TorGuard experience is made to be light, user-friendly, and intuitive. And while both of our applications, TorGuard Lite, and TorGuard Viscosity, provide a seamless experience–there are key differences that you should be aware of so that you can find the right fit. Let’s break it down for you.
The TorGuard lite VPN app
TorGuard Lite is the simpler, but still robust, solution for the user looking to try out VPN for the first time. Or if you’re just looking for a basic solution to your VPN need, TorGuard Lite won’t you let down.
TorGuard Lite is a small program that takes only seconds to download. Then, you enter your information and it automatically connects the VPN to secure your internet connection. You don’t have to mess with any options if you don’t want to. And while there aren’t as many options as the Viscosity client, TorGuard Lite still has the protection you need.
And if you do wish to test the limits of the Lite client, there is still room for customization. TorGuard Lite comes with some features within that are perfect for users looking to circumvent VPN prevention and set up an app kill switch.
TorGuard Lite’s Stealth VPN feature makes your VPN usage appear as regular HTTP traffic, which makes your VPN virtually impossible to detect. And if you’re looking to end a program if the VPN disconnects (whether through lost internet connection or an ISP outage) you can quickly shut down the application through the kill switch feature. Just find the program, add it to the list, and the next time your VPN disconnects, your program (perhaps your Bittorrent client) will close down, keeping you safe!
Here is a list of features on the lite app:
- Auto Start VPN
- WebRTC Leak Block
- DNS Leak Block
- Built in App Killswitch
- Stealth VPN (DPI Firewall Bypass)
- Custom VPN Scripts
- Windows/Mac/Linux
- Unlimited Installs
- OpenVPN Only
TorGuard Viscosity VPN app
Feeling tech savvy? Or perhaps you’re just looking for that ONE feature missing from our lite client? Well, Viscosity has you covered with a multitude of solutions that satisfy your VPN-addiction.
All you need to do is download your license for Viscosity from the TorGuard members area. Then you can set up the client in a similar manner as the TorGuard Lite client.
One of the most notable feature lists of the Viscosity client is that you can customize your connection to the VPN–which is perfect for gamers looking to connect to a particular server, or a clear solution for someone looking to connect to a server at a specified location. Once you connect to the client, you can click the icon and find the place of the OpenVPN that you want.
From here you can also choose various VPN options like OpenVPN, L2TP, PPTP, SSTP, and Stealth. We suggest using OpenVPN for the highest level of encryption and security. L2TP is a tunneling protocol used to support VPNs and delivers moderate encryption protection. PPTP is a very simple point-to-point tunneling protocol that is good for simple streaming, but is no longer considered to be the best in terms of security. Solutions like L2TP and PPTP can be very useful for people with slower connections like DSL as they often perform better. These protocols can also work for you if you want to stream quickly without a need for OpenVPN’s increased encryption.
Here is a list of features available for TorGuard Viscosity:
- Auto Start VPN
- WebRTC Leak Block
- DNS Leak Block
- OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP Support
- Custom VPN Scripts
- Custom OpenVPN connections
- Only Windows/Mac
- Only one install per license
- Retail value is $9, comes free with TorGuard membership
Regardless of your decision, you can’t go wrong with TorGuard. For example, both clients come embedded with WebRTC protection. WebRTC was a huge security leak in early 2015 that stemmed from underlying core issues in Windows networking. Now TorGuard has updated all software clients to protect against this vulnerability that prevents users from sidestepping a VPN and finding your IP address.
As you’ll come to find out, TorGuard can be relied on for consistently updating, improving, and innovating in the VPN space.
