OpenVPN error: All TAP-Win32 adapters on this system are currently in use.

This error occurs when the TAP-Win32 network adapter has been disabled. Or when another copy of OpenVPN is running in the background.

First, ensure openvpn is not running already.

There are two methods to resolve this:

Method 1

Windows XP: Open Control Panel. Open Network and Internet connections. Open Network Connections. Right-click the adapter called TAP-Win32 Adapter V9 and select Enable.

Vista: Open Control Panel. Open Network and Internet. Open Network and Sharing Center. Open Manage network connections. Right-click the adapter called TAP-Win32 Adapter V9 and select Enable.

Windows 7: Open Control Panel. Open Network and Internet. Open Network and Sharing Center. Open Change Adapter Settings. Right-click the adapter called TAP-Win32 Adapter V9 and select Enable.G

If you find that the adapter was already enabled, please try disabling it first, then enabling it. (Effectively "resetting" the adapter.)

Method 2

Uninstall and then re-install your VPN software - this may correct any problems.
